The rear of the latch I am going to dismantle. This is a (broken) frame latch but the lid latch is identical
This is the rear view of the latch, the blind rivet indicated by the arrow is the first thing to be removed. Don't worry about the end of the rivet, this is easily removed once the latch has been dismantled.
These two clips cen be removed once the blind rivet is drilled our. They are guides for the action of the latch when it is assembled so they need to be kept to one side for replacement in due course.
When the guides have been removed you will see two peened areas that hold a steel plate in position. You need to drill these peenings away. start by using a 1.5mm drill as centrally as possible, then move up to a 2.5mm drill. Don't go bigger than 2.5mm and drill deep enough so that the drillings are obvious even when the metal plate is removed. We will revisit these drillings at a later stage.
Here we can see the latch with the steel plate removed. The arrows point to two pins that were held in position by the plate.
and here is the plate. Once again you'll need this later so put it safely to one side.
